How to run it

Whatever the room's own clock says when the door opens.

The rule

1. Split into teams if there are enough of you for more than one room, and run them at the same time or back to back.
2. The clock stops the moment a team is told it is out, whether that is by escaping or by running down.
3. Fastest genuine escape takes it. One team only, and nobody escapes? Beating the room's posted average takes it instead.

Worth knowing

• A team let out early on a hint still counts its own time — hints are part of the room, not a disqualification.
• A room with no posted average and only one team running has nothing to race. Run The Reveal instead.

What you need

• A booked escape room — One locked room, one hour, one team inside it at a time venue

Nothing here has to be bought.

Before the day

Ask at the desk whether the room posts an average completion time — most do, and it is the fallback if your group is only running one team.

If it goes badly

The last man to guess the final code buys the coffees on the way out.
