How to run a beer pong tournament
Pairs, a round robin, a final, and a tie-break that settles it without an argument.
A single game of beer pong is over in ten minutes and settles nothing. A tournament fills an evening, gives everybody three or four games, and produces a result the room agrees with — which is entirely about deciding the tie-break before the first throw rather than after the last one.
Fill the cups with water and let anybody drink separately. It changes nothing about the game and it means the people who are not drinking are still in the tournament.

Questions
How many people do you need for a beer pong tournament?
Six is the neat number: three pairs, every pair plays every other, and the best two play the final. With an odd one out, that person referees, which is a real job.
How do you break a tie in a round robin?
Games won first. Level on games, whoever has most cups left across all their games goes through. Still level, one ball each and closest to a cup takes it. Agree all three before the first game.
Do you have to drink to play?
No. Fill the cups with water, and anybody who wants a drink has one beside them. The game is throwing a ball into a cup; the rest is optional.
What do you need?
A table, a stack of plastic cups and a bag of ping-pong balls. Buy spares — half of them end up under something.
